UFC Super Stars: David “Tank” Abbott
David Lee Abbott (nato nell’ Aprile del 1965 a Huntington Beach, California) è un fighter che deve la sua fama grazie allo style di lotta che dice di aver sviluppato facendo a botte nei bar di motociclisti, prima di iniziare la sua carriere nell UFC ( e anche dopo e durante, se è per questo). Lui stesso ha definito il suo stile Pit-Fighting.
Abbott ha debuttato nell’UFC 6 – Clash of the Titans perdendo, in tutta la sua carrier più incontri di quanti ne abbia vinti nell UFC (è a un 8-10) . Nel suo debutto, ha sdraiato John Matua in 18 secondi, per poi perdere contro l’ottimo sambista per 17 minuti a causa di un rear naked choke. Oleg è stato portato via in barella dalla gabbia e ha passato la notte all’ospedale, mentre, dice il mito, Tank era al bar ad ubriacarsi. Ed è proprio questo che piace di Abbot: il suo look poco ortodosso, lo stile da rissaiolo, la sua aggressività e il suo carattere esagerato. in quasi tutti i suoi incontrianche se usciva perdente, usciva con pochissimi segni, al contrario dell’avversario, spesso gonfio come una zampogna.
E’ questa sua superiorità agli avversari, bramosi di vincere che forse lo rende cosi carismatico ( almeno ai miei occhi :-)
A Febbraio 2008, il fenomeno internet Kimbo si scontra con Abbott, all’evento Elite XC’s Street Certified vincendolo di misura.
L’ultimo incontro è stato una vittoria al Valentine’s Eve Massacre Event. Abbott ha messo KO Bourke al primo round. Nella stessa Promotion dovrebbe fare un incontro con Ken Shamrock quando quest’ultimo avra il go a cambattere ( è stato sospeso per tutto il 2009)
